We’re thrilled to announce a major milestone as Preppr has been featured in Forbes. This feature highlights the innovative work the Preppr team is doing to evolve disaster preparedness and we couldn't be more proud.

Preppr is about empowering communities to tackle the toughest challenges with smarter, easier-to-use tools. The feature highlights Preppr’s mission to streamline exercise design while fostering a decentralized yet connected approach to preparedness through its “swarm-intelligent preparedness” capability.

Being highlighted by Forbes is an incredible honor, and we’re excited to share this moment with our growing community.

Give me a brief paragraph about your background.

I’m Justin Snair, CEO of Preppr.ai. I’ve spent most of my adult life helping communities, agencies, and teams get ready for and respond to crises. With 20 years of experience in the military, government, public health, emergency management, and preparedness, I’ve worked across policy, practice, and research at every level. But I’m tired of the status quo: high costs, repetitive exercises, and systems that fail to keep pace with modern needs. Meanwhile, disasters are becoming more frequent and complex, while resources dwindle. I bring a unique skill set to this challenge: a deep understanding of current risks, how preparedness operates, how technology and AI can address unmet needs, and, most importantly, a willingness to act.

What was the spark that initiated Preppr, and how does it work?

I founded Preppr.ai because I wanted to break down barriers, lower costs, and better connect practitioners and communities in disaster preparedness. And sure, this might sound idealistic, but at the core, I just want to help my friends, colleagues, neighbors, and family be better prepared—and fix a system I know is broken.

The spark came during 300 conversations with practitioners and community groups this year. One moment stands out: a demo with a county of 30,000 people. Their preparedness team? Just 0.5 FTE with almost no budget or experience designing exercises. One person told me, “I want to conduct an exercise, but I just don’t have the time or experience to create something useful.” That hit me.

Exercises are supposed to prepare us for disasters, but the process has become so overwhelming that many teams never start—or spend exorbitant amounts outsourcing. Preppr tackles this by making preparedness accessible, starting with reimagined exercise design:

  • No steep learning curves.

  • No juggling Word docs and spreadsheets.

  • An AI-powered tool that builds fully customized exercises in minutes, using open-source intelligence (OSINT), natural language mapping, data-driven models, and realistic scenarios.

Discussion-based disaster exercises are like Dungeons & Dragons—but instead of fighting dragons, governments, businesses, and hospitals fight crises. Preppr turns what was once a slow, paper-based, and expensive process into something efficient and accessible.

But exercises are just the beginning. Preppr is designed to grow into a full platform for preparedness. Imagine small counties with part-time staff accessing the same capabilities as large cities with full teams. Imagine Preppr acting like a recommendation system—“Organizations and people like you also prepared for this hazard by…” With a platform rich in user-driven insights, we can dramatically improve preparedness at individual, community, and national levels.

A key piece of this vision is Preppr’s swarm-intelligent preparedness functionality. Funded by the NYC Pandemic Response Institute, this feature improves inclusion and collaboration by helping users share insights and strategies across communities through conversational AI and an AI agent support system. Ten jurisdictions will be given access to this and the functionality will be independently evaluated by Rachael Piltch-Loeb, Ph.D with the CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy to ensure its effectiveness.

Who is your primary target audience? Is Preppr also applicable to average homeowners?

Our primary target audience includes governments, businesses, and organizations with a mandate—whether moral, fiduciary, or legal—to prepare for disasters. These groups ensure safety and continuity, from local governments to schools and hospitals.

While the focus is on professional users, Preppr has applications in other sectors too. For example, insurers can use the platform to refine risk modeling, and platforms like Zillow could integrate hazard assessments. As Preppr evolves, it could also help individuals and families directly with clear risk assessments and practical planning tools.

Is Preppr applicable to non-residence assets such as cars, boats, motorcycles, etc.?

Absolutely. Cars, boats, motorcycles, and similar assets are integral to our way of life and often play critical roles during disasters, whether for evacuation or livelihood protection. Preppr is designed to integrate these considerations into broader strategies.

Incorporating these assets into preparedness discussions ensures more comprehensive plans and generates valuable insights into how communities are equipped to handle hazards impacting these items.

Are there any other points that you think are important for readers to know about Preppr?

Preppr isn’t just about exercises—it’s about addressing the larger issues in preparedness. The system today is fragmented, expensive, and inaccessible to many. Preppr levels the playing field with scalable tools that are intuitive, cost-effective, and tailored to real-world needs.

Beyond helping governments and organizations, Preppr aims to directly empower families. Imagine Preppr guiding a discussion-based game at the kitchen table, helping families identify risks and plan together. By doing so, users not only gain actionable insights but also receive personalized recommendations to improve their real-world preparedness. And then imagine what governments could learn from that shared knowledge—how families’ collective insights could inform broader preparedness strategies.

Preppr’s mission is to make preparedness accessible to everyone—one community, organization, and family at a time, finally creating a connected ecosystem where everyone learns, prepares, and grows together.

What makes this journey even more personal is that Preppr isn’t funded by a big corporation or a government grant. It’s supported by me, my wife, a few key believers, and family members who share our vision. It’s ambitious, risky, and hard, but we believe it’s worth the shot. We’re looking for like-minded, principled partners in industry and communities to join us in making preparedness better for everyone.
